Literature Text

I believe I belong in a bygone time
My personality is a few years behind
I'm too proper and prim
I just don't fit in
I belong in a time that is gone.

My clothes are just too long
My jokes are just so wrong
I'm surrounded by text
But think poetry's best
I belong in a time that is gone.

I don't dance when I should
I don't think that I could, not in the way that they do
I can't be pretty if I can't be naughty
Then I can't be pretty, my footwork's to shoddy
I belong in a time that is gone.

My clothes are not tight, my skin is not bare
I try with all might, but I haven't the dare
I wish I could be what modern day wants
But I haven't the nerve to answer their taunts
I belong in a time that is gone.

I want society, the kind with high class
To be with the opposite of this modern day crass
I dream of balls with gentlemen suitors
I tire of parties with purity looters
I belong in a time that is gone.

I was born in a time that I loathe and detest
I'd prefer to live in the time of the quest
I hate clubs, dance floors, and bars
I'd prefer carriages to gas powered cars
I belong in a time that is gone.

I lie awake in my bed, and think on my life
And for some reason wish, that I'd known some more strife
I love a challenge and prefer it to ease
If life was more difficult, the day I would seize
I belong in a time that is gone.

And I wish for a time that is gone.
I mean every word.
